Remember the Dream

I just finished watching Oprah's "Remember the Dream" special. It was about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. but it didn't rehash some of those traditional biographical points that many kids write about in junior high. Instead, the special took a look at how Dr. King's dream and his efforts influenced this entire nation: interracial marriages, state and federal laws, education, etc. Oprah selected 3 very interesting outlooks through the eyes of people who grew up during and after the Civil Rights Movement. The story of Johnnie Mae Chappell brought me to tears. (Darn you, Oprah for making me cry all the time!) The fight continues to this day to bring her killers to justice.

Overall, Oprah left viewers with a message of hope and this question--how will you remember the dream?

For most people, I'm sure today is just another day off but it really should be a reminder to everyone that without our dreams, life is colorless. Not black or white. Just nothing at all. So, if no day other than today, dream and dream in wonderful color.

NaNoWriMo Day 14 Stats

I didn't do any writing today! Busy busy busy. Okay, so I'm allowed one day where that happens, right? :o) Actually, I've got another day of work and a date at 7 p.m. so I doubt I get much writing done Thursday. That means Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be BIC days. Butt in chair! Until then, I'm having fun and getting some perspective on my plot.

Goodies

I got my NaNo t-shirt in the mail today. Yippee! Last year was my first year attempting NaNo and I was too shy to attend any of the write-ins for the LA area. I'm thinking of going to at least one this year.

Today, I slept for 13 hours, ate really yummy butternut squash soup, and had a Mrs. Field's cookie for dessert. Life is good.
