I'm behind on my journal reading/responding. [livejournal.com profile] edithspage and [livejournal.com profile] dawn_metcalf tagged me in awesome memes. Here they go:

Meme #1
Off the top of your head, what are the last five things that made you smile?

1. Holding my high school friend's baby, Amare. I even got to read him a bedtime story this weekend.
2. Hearing my best friend laugh last night over the phone. That woman cracks me up!
3. Listening to music with my sister yesterday. We have such common music tastes.
4. Thinking about my good friend Elana and how happy I am for her future. She's engaged!
5. RSVP-ing for Elana's New Years Eve party at her house.

Meme #2
1) Open the closest book - not a favorite or most intellectual book - but the book closest at the moment, to page 56
2) Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following
3) tag five innocents [or more]
4) or take it a step further and do the same for your manuscript

Fun, you know, is serious. I know just how hard he worked on his themes, and the effort that he put into doing things just so that it sounded effortless, or sounded natural, or sounded easy, but in fact, it wasn't.

From Monk's Music: Thelonious Monk and Jazz History in the Making by Gabriel Solis

Yea! Another smile to add to the list and I've been meaning to finish this book. It sits next to my nightstand, and I'm still in my pjs typing on my laptop from the bed. I've got some Christmas shopping to finish today (yes, I'm a procrastinator) and one of these errands involves picking up NEED by [livejournal.com profile] carriejones. I'm going to take pictures at the store, if it isn't too crowded (because we writers are shy). Off I go! I tag [livejournal.com profile] teepleacres, [livejournal.com profile] stinglikeabee, [livejournal.com profile] wordweaver78, and [livejournal.com profile] terrafanti.

So, I went out today and finished up (just about) my holiday shopping. I know what some of you are thinking, "She's crazy to hit the mall so close to Christmas!" Honestly, I had the most pleasant shopping experience today--all the clerks/cashiers were nice and so were shoppers. (Though, I wish that someone would put a bookstore in the inner cities--I shouldn't have to drive to Manhattan Beach or Torrance for a book. Blacks and Latinos read too, yo!) :)

I went from Compton to Manhattan Beach, shopping at different stores for items that I needed.

Like the new [livejournal.com profile] carriejones novel, Need. I can't wait to sink my teeth into this book! (Yeah, that's a McDonald's bag in the background, so what?! I got hungry after all my shopping.)

I love all the gifts I got, including this awesome Pez set for my dad. (Thank goodness he doesn't read this journal! LOL)

I wanted one too but I figured the novel from B&N and the discounted set of AMC movie tickets I bought myself from Costco were enough of a "Merry Christmas to Me" presents. Anyway, my dad and I are Star Trek FANATICS and I know he's going to love his gift.

Well, I'm off to have some holiday time with the fam. Merry Christmas to everyone and may all your dreams for the New Year come true!
